In fact persistent and habitual posture patterns are correlated with movement disorders, pain and enhancing a self destructive posture. So, people need to be conscious about a good and bad posture to help them gain clinical benefits.

What is a good posture?

“Good posture is one, in which the position of body, body parts, joints, muscles and bones are at minimum stress or in their normal anatomical alignment is said to be a good posture.”

What is a bad posture?

“However, a bad posture is one, in which the position of body and body parts are at greater stress or they are placed abnormally with respect to normal anatomical position in space is said to be a bad posture.”

Significance of having knowledge about good and bad postures

As long as we sit, walk, or lie in a bad posture, it places great amount of uneven stress on the bones, joints, nerves, vessels and ligaments. It might trigger pain and distortion, such as back, neck and knee, shoulder and even headache. It can also render your effects of MSK signs /symptoms worse or difficult to cope with.

Conversely, the opposite is accurate as well. Enhancing your posture correction and increasing your muscle’s strength can decrease the possibility of certain MSK diseases. A correct posture requires less energy-whether it control by your muscles or seated on a comfortable chair. Your key abdominal muscles operate more effectively when they are properly arrange, this also ensures that they can stabilize you and facilitate you to move your parts even more easily. Even if your whole body is relax and comfortable, you’re actually saving your energy for various movements you need to make. Therefore, good posture can assist even with muscle weakness, tension and fatigue, along with ataxia (balance issues), trembling, spasticity, and cramps.

Good and bad postures of sitting standing and lying

So in these pictures we can see good & bad postures of sitting, standing and lying. Hence we can also see that wrong is putting extra stress on neck as well as on back muscles. As the result of this, nerve impingement, muscle’s imbalance and weakness. Misalignment of spine, disturbs the center of gravity, furthermore causes pain and decrease ROM of the regions involved. And hence the right alignment prevents all these conditions.

To conclude, we can say that body posture is mainly the position of a person’s body and parts in space. In contrast to the good posture, bad posture put extra stress on body parts leading to pain. Alteration of center of gravity and decrease ROM. As the result a person feels fatigued and exhausted even at the starting of his work. Also it gives bad appearance to a person. Therefore it advise to know and maintain a good posture.
